This might be a case of unintended irony, but Square and Twitter Co-Founder Jack Dorsey wades into waters previously occupied by “crazy libertarians” and argues that payments are a form of expression.
Yes! He seems to get it, at least on the surface. If it would be wrong for a government to force you to say you believed something you didn’t, why is it OK to force you to buy things you don’t want? My decision to buy Coke instead of Pepsi is an expression of my values and tastes. If you begin to distort that transaction with meddlesome interventions you’ve made it impossible for me to freely express my values and tastes, problems ensue.
Of course, everything else he’s saying about unifying, beautifying and streamlining transaction is interesting too. Give it a listen.
