Martha Stewart Omnimedia 1Comments

So, I interviewed at Martha Stewart on Monday for a position as a digital designer. Julie Cunnah, if you’re reading this, a thank you is on its way. Overall it went well. I don’t think I was stumped on any questions or answered poorly. I made the mistake of not remembering where I had applied for this position though. So, without being able to read the detailed job description that was on Career Builder I went in a little cold. The good thing is, I’m completely qualified for this position and could do it really well. The bad thing is they’ll be interviewing candidates all week and the chances of a more experienced person coming in and interviewing, in this job climate, are high. My hopes are still up though!

Balls To The Wall 0Comments

So this is Brooklyn Kickball at its finest! My team’s name is Balls To The Wall and we rock. Seriously, look at the scoreboard.

A few hundred 25 -35 year old nerds get together in McCarren Park in Brooklyn every Sunday to play a 4th grade gym class sport. Everyone justifies this activity by drinking cheep beer out of Styrofoam cups and blasting music from a PA speaker. Everyone is here for a good time, and every one gets it.

Oh yeah, and I forgot my uniform shirt like a jackass.

US Open Photos 0Comments

20090617_us-open-2009_0375

Lucky me, I had a chance to attend the wednesday practice round of the 2009 US Open on a beautiful sunny day. If you turn on the TV right now you’ll see that the course has since been soaked by 5 inches of rain and it’s not likely to stop; so I got in at just the right time.

I took all of these photos with a simple Canon 350d body and sigma 70-300mm lens. Kind of makes me wonder what I could do with this camera and this lens.

New Bike! 0Comments

So I bought a bike for the first time as an adult yesterday. Everyone gets one for Christmas as a kid, but I don’t think most people decide to switch from driving a car to riding a bike in their mid-twenties. However, this is Brooklyn…and you’re just not cool if you don’t have a bike. Plus, it’s a lot of fun to ride and it’s great excercise.

That’s not it…just a view of the west village from where I got coffee tonight.

Yes…the bike is purple, but it will be painted soon. The lock I have for it was more expensive than the bike itself and it weighs more! You couldn’t cut through this chain with a blowtorch.

MSRP: $126.00!

I got the bike and the lock for $150

$29 for front wheel to be trued and tube replaced. What a bargain…

Who is this kid? He’s from Rochester and he’s ripping it up! I love that I know every spot that this was shot in…

GM Bankruptcy & Advertising 0Comments

On Monday GM officially filed for bankruptcy which puts their $2 Billion advertising budget on the chopping block. The federal government basically took GM over, A 60% government stake in General Motors “may give some Americans pause,” said President Obama. Gee you think? This is the same federal government that loses $10 billion or so annually in the shuffle of operations. Literally, they lose it and can’t find it. Not to mention the fact that they have $34 trillion in upcoming liabilities in Social Security, Medicair and Medicaid that they have no idea how they’re going to pay for.

This is just great.

What will this mean for the advertising world? This article argues that it will put downward pressure on advertsing prices and that media companies will get some good deals on air time. GM owes ad agencies $167 million, what will happen to that money is yet to be determined, which sucks if you run one of those companies. But the good news is that $121.5 million of it is owed to Starcom MediaVest for purchases they made on GM’s behalf. So if you don’t work for Starcom MediaVest then you might be able to attract new clientelle to the ad buying market with lower prices, which could be a boon for hiring. Which is good news if you’re an unemployed designer like me.
